DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY
In our spatial search, Mosconi 3 adds to the concept of free ground floor and permeability among urban and semiprivate spaces, the experimentation on
the sequence of spaces and their limits within the 3 functional units that constitute the set, the movements of matter, the filter of lights and shadows, form and function…
The immediate relationaship with the railway roads and the voids they generate allow a relationship of expansion toward the urban horizon.
The continuity with the street is given by a free ground floor over which a series of boxes containing the dwelling cells appear as “floating”: The heaviest one, which closes the first two identical floors, and the other, which departs from the former, with a lightweight glazed transition.
A prism cladded in wood (containing services) gives way to the access to the ground floor generating the limit between the semipublic and the semiprivate.
This box for the services is the one that will articulate the different private spaces of each plant.
The structural plastic treatment of the concrete mass will limit and make up the spaces which are generated.
It was not only intended to play with noble materials (concrete, wood, iron, glass) but also with the senses, generating physical and visual limits, lights and shadows…
The functional units comprise a succession of terraces among the rooms, a spatial continuity which links with the different urban spaces (patios), generating cross ventilation and natural light.
The system of parasols – shutters, with an iron and wood structure, fixed and mobile, limits the entry of light and heat, as well as it allows security and
privacy, as a transitional element between the urban space – terrace – private space, which contributes to sustainability and defines the volumetry of the set, closing and intensifying the concrete boxes with the functions they nucleate.
