The new company building of the Burgenland pioneer of wind power use Püspök Group in Parndorf is environmentally friendly and striking. In keeping with the company's mission statement – to contribute to the world of tomorrow – the architects Doser-Demon of ad2 architekten designed an energy self-sufficient building. Not least through the use of the thermal storage capacity of concrete, a highly comfortable working environment was created.
The rapid expansion of the family business, which was established in 1997, required additional premises for the administration. So in the summer of 2013 it was decidedto build a new building. The tender documents formulated the vision for the new headquarters in terms of aesthetics, function and energy supply. The architects succeeded in combining these parameters masterfully. "Concrete was clearly the most sensible material for the implementation, both for the requirements of sustainability and for the architectural requirements," so the architects.
Multi-talented concrete
The advantages of concrete have been used here several times: as a massive demarcation and noise protection on the road side, as a storage mass for heating and cooling the building and the exposed concrete surfaces as a design element in the interior. The upper floor is designed in such a way that any type of office would be possible. In contrast to the rough materiality of the exposed concrete, thearchitects used colourful, textile materials. Carpets, suspended, covered ceiling elements and wall coverings not only create an elegant and homely atmosphere, but also contribute to optimal room acoustics. The ground floor, which is encased in the ground, is heated over the floor. Both the building envelope and the roof are partially-activated. "In winter as well as in summer, we have an extremely pleasant indoor climate," confirmsproject manager Roman Schmelzer of the Püspök Group, "and above all no unpleasant draught of air conditioners."
