Built by the Pafos Municipality and completed in 2020 the new Community Centre houses a mix of uses ranging from nursery age childcare, Kindergarten, afterschool childcare for and also a Day Centre for Pensioners all spread over 2,350 square meters on 4 separate floors which each level being specifically designed around its intended use.
It’s aim is to serve the local and greater Pafos Community with particular emphasis on single mothers with children and young families as well as the older local residents.
The Design was based around a simple yet robust palette of materials and every element and form designed with the safety and utmost care for the users. Some mentionable features being specialist safety flooring inside and out, fully controlled and monitored access and egress points, colour considerations that promote health and learning and most striking of all the expansive Expanded metal mesh solar shading that covers most of the facades.
Internally the rooms are supplied with all the necessary equipment and spaces according to the age of the users and each floor is served by sanitary facilities and support function rooms for that appropriate level use eg: Nursing room, staff spaces, waiting areas, doctor’s rooms and day-bedrooms.
Furthermore the childcare levels are served by FOUR large separate external playgrounds, three of which are covered for use during both rain and hot summer conditions which allow the children constant and direct access to safe and comfortable playspaces.
The Pensioner’s Day Centre follows a quite different layout to the lower floors and is based around a large and open plan main space which can adapt for different functions and which is surrounded by full height and fully opening wrap around windows which can transform the space into an inside/outside space to take advantage of the year-round clement Pafos weather and which expands the usable space onto a large covered roof terrace and offering sea views of the coastline.
The building is served by a secure underground parking level for all staff and authorized personnel and a professional kitchen and food preparation unit that serves all levels.
