Set along the South Kohala Coast, Pahinahina responds to a dramatic landscape of black lava fields and Pacific shoreline. The residence is conceived as a tropical sanctuary, with architecture and landscape developed as a unified composition.

Curved stone walls shape both interior and exterior spaces, transitioning from coarse lava stone outside to refined sandstone within. Pavilion-like hipped roofs, deep lanais, cedar roof structures, and gently curved shade pavilions bring a restrained, crafted character to the home. Throughout, natural materials and carefully framed transitions create a close relationship between the architecture, outdoor living spaces, and the surrounding landscape.
