Set on the east shore of Lake Tahoe, Yellow Jacket is a contemporary mountain retreat designed to recede into its forested hillside setting. The two-story residence occupies a natural bench where an earlier cabin once stood, minimizing the building footprint while positioning the primary gathering spaces on the upper level for filtered views of the lake.

Two split-granite boulders mark the arrival, leading to an elevated walkway through the trees. A simple gabled roof with deep overhangs responds to sun and snow, while a restrained palette of patinated zinc, dark-stained cedar, limestone, steel, and wood gives the architecture a subdued presence within the landscape.
