Located in Klong Lud Kred, Bangkok, PARK KRET River club is designed as a vibrant riverfront retreat for families, offering a place to gather, dine, and engage in recreational activities. Positioned at the meeting point of the Chao Phraya and Lud Kred rivers, the project provides a serene setting where visitors can step away from the city and immerse themselves in the natural landscape.
The restaurant’s design takes cues from traditional Thai houses along the river, integrating thoughtfully with the natural topography. A spacious river deck serves as the entry point, offering sweeping views of the water and acting as an inviting communal space. The main structure is set back, preserving the existing foundation and creating an interior that subtly reflects the layered history of the site.
Material selection emphasizes local identity and craftsmanship. The steep corrugated roofs and rich redwood elements reference Thai vernacular architecture, while Koh Kred’s renowned clay pottery informs the project’s warm, earthy color palette. Pottery vases, placed throughout the river deck, function as both decorative elements and planters, reinforcing a connection to the local craft tradition.
The lush landscape is designed to enhance the sense of retreat, preserving existing trees while introducing a dense arrangement of cigar plants that create a vibrant, jungle-like atmosphere. This approach reinforces the idea of an urban escape while maintaining the ecological integrity of the area.
An outdoor pavilion, constructed from bamboo, provides a flexible gathering space for dining, social events, and casual relaxation. Designed to offer shade and varying levels of openness throughout the day, the pavilion enhances the overall experience by allowing visitors to engage with the shifting light and river breeze.
PARK KRET functions as more than a restaurant; it is a dynamic social space that fosters interaction, play, and relaxation along the river. With its focus on community and environmental integration, the project reinterprets the riverside lifestyle for contemporary urban dwellers.
