Single-family home on an urban lot in Vila Nova Conceição, São Paulo, conceived for a couple and their two children based on the search for a contemporary, smart, and sustainable way of living and building. The clients initially approached the firm interested in a steel frame construction. During the design process, they were introduced to the possibilities of mass timber and wood frame, taking into account the ease of construction, thermal and acoustic performance, and their role in reducing the building’s carbon footprint.
The project thus turns wood into an integral construction system: a mass timber structure with glulam (glued laminated timber) posts and beams, combined with wood frame infill walls and dry-assembled industrial components. This solution proved particularly suitable for the narrow lot with limited jobsite space, streamlining phases and reducing on-site operations.
Across three floors, the architecture also responds to the lifestyle of a family that values everyday togetherness. On the ground floor, the garage, double-height living room, kitchen, and service area form an integrated sequence; the outdoor area features a pool, an annex with a music room, and a changing room. The second floor houses the three suites and the couple’s private home office; on the third floor, a home gym, studio, and living spaces open toward the treetops near Ibirapuera Park.
Wood unites performance, industrialization, sustainability, and sensory experience, while the pitched volumetry—inspired by Nordic homes—gives the residence its distinct identity.
