Biophilia is a term claimed by researcher and psychologist, Edward Wilson, which means innate affinity to nature. Nature generatespositivefeelings in humans. In the wake of modern and intense life in the urban and industrial cities, designers usebiophilia, to connect urbanism to nature and create a pleasant, calm, stress-free environment, wellbeing, hence encouraging creativity and productivity of workers.

The new Perah Hashakedoffices are located in Tel Aviv's Alon Towers, on the 22nd floor. To address the many and intense work hours, and to design a pleasant, calm, peaceful workspace with emphasis on wellbeing - biophilia played an important guideline in the design choices, to achieve these goals, and is reflected in the design by the use of natural elements in the workspace:

Landscape - at the office entrance, the urban, high-tech and breathtaking views of vibrant Tel Aviv are exposed, day and night, which is an anti-thesis to the peaceful atmosphere in the office. Simultaneously, the sky, sunset, light and sea, are natural elements that enter the office space as well.

Nature motifs - vegetation - behind the front desk and at the end of the corridor, there are green walls with natural vegetation, that purifies the air, produces clean oxygen and creates a calm environment. Natural vegetation is known to contribute human health. Additionally, the owner of the company is an avid aquarium enthusiast, therefore there is a huge fish aquarium at the office, and other marine elements.

Natural materials - the front desk is an artisan woodwork that combines wood and creates a luxuries and warm feel. The texture that adorns the desk,resembles a coral in shades of turquoise and blue. One wall is covered withwoven colored straw wallpaper. The use of natural wood can be seen in floors, walls and ceilings throughout the project. The presence of natural materials emphasizes the bond with nature.

Natural light - most of the work spaces are designed with glass partitions, which creates transparency, giving openness and enabling the view of the landscape. Due to the large windows, plenty of natural lightenters,and brings warmth, joy and optimism inside. Furthermore, the light changes during the day, according the daytime, creating light and shade games.It's a way to enjoy the long working hours, connecting to the day and night cycles.

Hiding area - this space allows privacy for conversations, consultations, thinking, rest and quiet time, similar to a cave. The wooden ceiling creates a warm and private feel, which is an interesting contrast to the transparency and openness that exists in the rest of the offices.

There is a great contrast to the project between the office and itssurrounding environment. The office is designed in the spirit of biophilia - natural, pleasant and peaceful, compared to urban, noisy and vibrant Tel Aviv, in a balanced way so you can enjoy both worlds.
