Prêt-á-Porter in Cork

Pedro Ressano Garcia as Architects

The commission to design a house «prêt-a-porter» means literally ready to use. It is an expansion of a small, ancient, white washed house with a new volume placed on top of it. Assembled inside the shop, it is then transported on a truck to the site and ready to use when resting over the existing building.

This is desirable for two reasons requested by the commissioner, fast to build and temporary presence thus offering the possibility to reposition the new volume in another location.

The social area and kitchen are bellow, at the ground level, inside the existing house, the rooms are placed above. Due to confort reasons the new piece is all wrapped with cork, for its thermal insulation capacities and lightweight for transportation.
