The Pushkinagory Landscape Park is one of KSFO's most significant projects to date: a public park honoring the poet Aleksandr Pushkin in the municipality of Pushkinagory, approximately 300 kilometers from Saint Petersburg, where Pushkin spent the final years of his life after being sent into exile. The place bears his name.
Pushkin is one of the most important cultural figures in Russian history — a poet whose work is understood by Russians as the defining expression of their literary identity. Designing a tribute to him in the specific landscape of his exile demanded a response that was genuinely commensurate with his legacy.
Our decision was radical in its simplicity: no statues, no inscriptions, no explicit references. The tribute would exist in form and material alone. The park takes the shape of the leaf of the indigenous tree species of Pushkinagory, giving the landscape the organic contour of the place itself. Wood is the only material used throughout — in the bridge, the entrance structure, and the viewpoint platform.
Within this leaf-shaped plan, three programmatic elements are positioned: the bridge crosses the existing site topography; the entrance marks the transition from the main access path into the park; and the viewpoint is located at the leaf's apex, oriented precisely towards the local church, which is visible from the site and forms an essential part of the cultural landscape of Pushkinagory.
The project was developed as a competition entry in December 2023. The first prize was announced in March 2024. Construction began in late 2025 and is expected to be completed before the end of 2026.
