Situated at the highest point of a hill in Balneário Piçarras, this country house conceptualized by WGB Arquitetura e Engenharia proposes a sensitive and sophisticated dialogue between two typically contrasting landscapes: the serenity of the rural topography and the vastness of the marine horizon. The architectural approach sought to mimetize the building into the steep terrain, creating a sanctuary that prioritizes contemplation, privacy, and the use of natural materials.
The residence's volumetry is organized across two levels that explore horizontality and structural cantilevers. On the ground floor, the program of needs focuses on integrated living. Large glass planes run from end to end, allowing the social area to open completely to the outdoor deck and the linear pool. This fluid transition erases the boundaries between the built space and the grassy plateau, transforming the coastal landscape in the background into the permanent backdrop of the home.
The material selection is one of the project's highlights, bestowing a warm and timeless atmosphere. The robustness of the walls clad in natural stone and the solidity of the exposed concrete stand in elegant contrast to the thermal and visual lightness of the wood, which is applied to the ceilings of the large, sloping eaves. An imposing stone tower rises vertically on the facade, organizing circulation flows and creating a visual anchoring element that dialogues directly with the solidity of the hill.
On the upper floor, the private quarters enjoy an expansive terrace protected by minimalist guardrails featuring dark vertical lines. This elevated space functions as a private lookout, optimizing cross-ventilation and ensuring passive environmental comfort through the shading generated by the roof's generous eaves. Additionally, green roofs were incorporated over the lower volumes, increasing thermal insulation and visually integrating the architecture with the surrounding vegetation.
By balancing the refined rusticity of the materials with the lightness of contemporary window framing, WGB Arquitetura e Engenharia delivers a residence that does not merely rest upon the landscape but becomes an intrinsic part of it. The project is a manifesto of residential architecture that respects the spirit of the place (genius loci), offering a unique living experience where the countryside meets the sea.
