Retro Nostalgia Meets Modern in this Hip Urban Flat.
Experimentation was the key to transforming an old, abandoned flat into a wonderland. Designed to be a place of retreat and comfort, this flat was completely reconfigured to create a space that is warm, dreamy, sophisticated, and playful.
Inspired by late 70s quintessential design elements like earthy color schemes and oak wood paneling, this contemporary adaptation is subtle, combining unexpected colours, textures, and timeless materials including marble, vintage yellow glass, and ALPI panels.
Playful details abound from the pink lacquered cabinets, iron pulls, and designer tiles (made by Ceramica VOGUE) in the kitchen to the secret oak and rattan-style wall connecting the living room and the guest room, and the whimsical lighting by Site Specific. The entire space is visually connected by the harmonious use of soft pinks, oranges, and greens creating a cohesive palette throughout and making the space an ideal sanctuary.
Sustainability and supporting local artisans are at the heart of this project so this space relies on wooden ceiling fans to cool it and boasts state-of-the-art aluminum frames and a solar water heater. All of the custom-designed furniture—including the headboard, coffee table, and daybed—was made by local artisans, and the fabrics were sourced from local mills.
