House on the Douro River
Set along the banks of the Douro River, this contemporary residence was conceived to establish a strong relationship between architecture, landscape, and light. Positioned on an elevated site with unobstructed views over the river, the project embraces the surrounding scenery through large glazed openings, generous terraces, and carefully framed perspectives.
The architectural composition is defined by sculptural volumes that appear to float above the terrain, creating a dynamic balance between solidity and transparency. The contrast between the dark cladding and the white cantilevered planes reinforces the geometric identity of the house while emphasizing its horizontal relationship with the landscape.
The interior spaces were designed with an open and fluid layout, allowing natural light to penetrate deeply throughout the day and strengthening the visual connection to the Douro River. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels dissolve the boundary between inside and outside, extending the living areas toward the surrounding environment.
The project seeks to combine minimalism, comfort, and spatial clarity, resulting in a residence that responds harmoniously to its privileged location and panoramic river views.
