The main idea behind this house was to create a perfect setting that can support and strengthen our minds and creative spirits. To achieve it, we aimed at creating an environment that is comforting and inspiring. We used a very earthy and a raw material palate for the interior space of our house to completely blur the lines between outdoors and indoors. We wanted our house to mimic a natural setting where we feel completely free – hence the name rock house!
We wanted a space that was very lively and motivating and we achieved it by adding lot of plants and artworks to this raw background. By doing this, we ensured that these natural and artistic cues are always present around us.
To keep things effective and clutter free, we have made our house is very compact yet each function is earmarked and given its designated space. The idea was to create a wide variety of experiences within the house. There is a huge contrast in the character of spaces and a very strict hierarchy is created in the activeness of each space.
Living areas of the house are extrovert and very active throughout the day. Large windows and slider openings overlook the outdoor green space and bring in a lot of natural light and the dynamism with it. Mornings are very active and spent in the living spaces and as the day proceeds further, the functions transition into inward spaces and their character changes from being dynamic to more stable and stationary.
The central area acts as a transitioning space between the public and private areas of the house. This transition space is one of the most interesting spaces in our house. It changes its character multiple times during the day. It functions as a home office during day time, transitions itself into a library book reading space during evening and eventually takes form of a lounging area where all the family members spend their time together before retiring into their bedrooms.
Bedrooms are completely segregated from the active centres of the house. These private rooms are designed with very few elements which make them introvert and less animated. As a lifestyle choice, we have taken a strict decision to not take our mobiles or any other device along with us to the bedrooms. We wanted to make these private spaces completely free of any physical or mental clutter. To make the experience of bedrooms soothing, an intimate outdoor space is planned in the backyard that floods the bedrooms with the ambient evening light. This makes it a perfect setting for some undisturbed personal time where one can reflect upon the many things that would have taken place during the day.
We have aimed and have designed our house as a space where we can completely unwind and begin each day with a fresh, clutter free and a positive outlook.
