San Martino - home with a classic spirit in Milan

It's never easy to find at once the key of the project when multiple valid options open up in front of us. This important 250sqm apartment in the heart of Milan, in a building of the Milanese bourgeoisie from the 1960s, is a clear example of this: a regular floor plan, exposed on several fronts, leads Offstage to think on different levels, finding different combinations to the many variables that space and needs of the client suggest.

The dialogue with the clients leads to the final choice of a new distribution divided by macro-areas seamlessly interconnected by an internal path that links them. The heart of the project is the master suite, a large double bedroom with a wellness area and a dressing room area, in dialogue with the living and the sleeping areas by tailored doors that, when desired, allow sight permeability throught the house.

The hallway that interconnects these areas becomes an element with a strong expressive impact, treated with specific tones and finishes such as the floor in large black marquinia stoneware slabs by Florim, the colored mirrors on the walls and the pleated light blue lacquered boiserie.

As usual for Offstage, custom carpentry often replaces walls, becoming as a matter of fact a building material. In fact, partitions and infills are mostly made of frames in canaletto walnut wood and ribbed glass, or continuous walls in lacquered and pleated MDF, with flush integrated doors. A modular library and storage system with the same finishes marks the separation and the creation of specific areas: entrance, office, tv area.

The large tailored kitchen (Valcucine) relates to the living room through a diaphragm made with a wood and glass frame and sliding floor to ceiling door panels on the sides.

The bathrooms have different declinations according to the type. If the master bathroom is completely integrated into the room, with exposed shower, washbasins and a freestanding bathtub, the children's bathrooms have been thought in a more traditional way, except for the chromatic research of Cedit coverings and other furnishing elements. The courtesy bathroom is a small room with mirrored walls, the freestanding circular sink by Antonio Lupi and a resin panel, the work of an artist, in continuity with the atmosphere of the hallway to the sleeping area, an element with a strong scenic impact.

The lighting is designed to provide different quality and intensity of light, depending on the areas and the time of the day. Recessed spotlights, projectors and LED lines constantly interact and alternate each other, allowing the creation of multiple atmospheres.
