Incity MEGA, an extraordinary retail project spanning 340,000 square meters in Shanghai, defied all odds by being completed within a mere three years, amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. This remarkable landmark is not just an ordinary shopping destination, but a self-contained haven that offers a complete day of immersive experiences, encompassing retail, entertainment, dining, sports, and eco-education. Its overarching theme, "Meet, Eco, Global & Art," resonates throughout its design and offerings.
Nestled in the enchanting locality of Nanxiang, the project takes inspiration from the revered "White Crane Nanxiang Temple" that has graced the area for centuries. In Chinese culture, the crane is a symbol of good fortune and prosperity. We have encapsulated these sentiments by infusing the design with a captivating "crane" motif. Like a majestic white crane unfurling its wings, the mall extends a warm welcome to visitors from all corners of the world.
Spanning an entire city block measuring 300 by 250 meters, with a height of 35 meters, this architectural marvel is undeniably a grand entity. However, we were conscious of the potential for it to overpower and stifle the neighborhood. Hence, our second design concept emerged: "Big Guy Big Gifts," featuring "boxes embraced by ribbons." Delightful and vibrant gift boxes, revealed by dynamic lighting, adorn the building's facade, intertwined with three-dimensional ribbons. This artistic approach serves to break down the colossal structure, imbuing it with a more human scale. Moreover, the ribbon metaphor extends to the interior, with internal streets seamlessly connecting major attractions within the mall at strategic locations.
The Shanghai Incity MEGA boasts an array of distinctive features, including a skating rink, theater, gymnasium, and more. By carefully establishing layers of retreats along thesouthern facade, wehave artfully guided the flow of people from ground level to higher floors and eventually to the rooftop. Here, a splendid array of amenities awaits, including a football field, game sand pit, swimming pools, green house garden pods, outdoor gardens, and other open spaces that cater to the needs of the community. Each layer harmoniously blends with the indoor retail area, creating a seamless and captivating experience.
