With the slogan of filling beauty with emptiness, Pyeongangyul Cosmetics is an herbal skin care brand that minimizes artificial ingredients and seeks the natural healthy beauty of the skin with ingredients from nature.
The Pyeonggangryul flagship store located in Bukchon, Seoul, wanted to convey the healthy beauty of Pyeonggangryul by containing elements of Korean tradition and interpreting them in a modern way.
First, by making the road to the wall longer, the brand's immersion through architectural walks is encouraged. The stepping stones in the driveway cut the existing yard into small pieces, making use of the value of reuse.
The external façade expresses the value sought by the brand through empirical elements so that people can feel comfortable while coexisting with nature under the eaves while sitting on the Daecheongmaru. This is also a point that penetrates the characteristics of Eastern architecture.
In the Pyeongyangyul flagship store, most materials are from nature. It was intended to show the brand identity indirectly through materials and to feel it through the five senses.
The wind bell, signboard, and handle created through brass casting work are auditory-visual-tactile, the first to show the language of the space.
Entering the 1F, we first planned the movement so that we could be guided through the reception, use the product freely, and participate in the exhibition space.
The first lighting on the ceiling that you can see is a made-up light that adopts the form of a lantern. This lantern guides you through the Pyeongyangryul flagship store.
It's made by combining polyvinyl alcohol with Korean paper. These are materials that disappear when water touches them. It circulates with a message about the environment that when it functions, it returns to nature.
The main display has a barisol light in the shape of a well, which illuminates the main display, which is made of Pocheon stone. This borrows the shape of a well.
The wall and reception you can see across the street are all-natural earthen mimes mixed with mother-of-pearl. Products are listed in the earthen mimester, which indirectly delivers products from nature.
Additionally, the windows inside used a traditional window pattern called Gansaldore. When the sun was good, the entire area was opened to remove the boundaries outside me so that I could coexist with nature.
Inside, there is an exhibition space containing Korean style through the fabric through the landscape painting technique and the folding screen used in the palace.
After fully experiencing the product, experiencing the heritage of the flat rate, you will go up to 2F through the inner stairs. We accepted this staircase as it was in the existing building.
In addition, some of the walls that go up to 2F-3F exposed the demolition walls of the existing walls, preserving and sustaining the legacy that the building has.
It is the sustainability that Sherpa pursues that allows the charm of raw things that cannot be decorated and the things that make new to coexist naturally.
In 2F, we interpreted the brand identity of Pyeongyangyul in a modern way. The floor was borrowed from the form of a well-maru, gave a pattern, and connected as it was to produce a reception and a product table.
After that, the products are listed on the stainless steel polishing shelves, and the columns and shelves reflect the nature on the outside, so that the products can visually be contained within the nature.
In the inner space, you can experience the heritage of the flat rate in the exhibition space, cherry wood-made furniture, and traditional furniture through mother-of-pearl.
On the B1 floor, there are exhibitions to show the ingredients and effects of all products. Pyeongang Oriental Medicine Clinic has prepared a space where you can feel philosophy and history.
On the rooftop where Gyeongsangbuk-do Palace can be seen at a glance, I was able to feel the beauty of Korea and get a rest in peace.
