Originally conceived as a classic “white box” — a neutral, essential, and undistinguished space — the environment has been entirely reimagined to reflect Zumtobel’s identity and history. The goal was to create a space that not only showcases the company’s lighting systems, but also offers a more fluid and domestic vision of the workplace.

The result is an office that functions both as a working environment and an exhibition space. Light-based artworks throughout the interior tell the story of Zumtobel’s long-standing relationship with the world of art and design. These pieces are not merely decorative; they actively shape the spatial experience, highlighting the deep connection between light, culture, and experimentation.

A key feature of the project is the pleated glass wall — a sculptural surface that plays with light through the contrast between the softness of the pleats and the rigidity of the material. The pleated design acts as an optical device, capturing, refracting, and multiplying light rays, thereby enhancing the perception of space. Integrated mirrors further amplify the effect, creating unexpected reflections and perspectives. More than a simple cladding, it is a light-interpreting structure, fully aligned with the company’s core mission.

From a layout perspective, the space unfolds longitudinally. The entrance opens into a contemporary foyer, furnished with tables, seating, and illuminated signage, leading into the main open space, conceived as a winter garden. Here, large windows overlooking a green outdoor area allow natural light to filter in, moderated by adjustable blinds. The pleated glass wall separates enclosed offices from the rest of the space, providing privacy and sound insulation while maintaining visual openness.

The project is completed by several meeting rooms, a dining area, and a circular multipurpose room, designed to host a range of activities — from meetings to collaborative work and events. Its unique shape and central location make it a highly flexible and strategic element within the overall environment.
