At Luxemburger Straße in Essen, KÖLBL KRUSE GmbH constructed the new corporate headquaters for the energy service provider Ista Deutschland GmbH. 

The site contains the remains of a listed monument, which lent its name to the project, "Silberkuhlsturm." The six-storey building complex encloses a projected central courtyard. two prominent vertical structures mark the opening towards the adjacent park and form a welcoming entrance to the ensemble. The continuous facade is structured by meandering bands that break up the rigid grid and visually connect the building volumes in their unique configuration. 

immediately beyond the foyer lies the central conference area with meeting rooms of various sizes that can be flexibly combined. The ground floor also houses the company restaurant. 

The basement contains car parking facilities as well as the majority of the building services, which significantly reduced the amount of rooftop technical installations. The upper floors are reserved exclusively for office use. The building wings are designed as two-bay and three-bay structures, accommodating all types of office concepts - from celluar offices and combi-offices to open-plan areas. With 17,000 square metres of gross floor area, the building offers workplaces for 600 employees. Flexibility for the future adaptation was a key aspect of the design: a standard floor can be divided into three rental units, each fully equipped with service facilities. At the centre of each unit is a generously proportioned common area with a tea kitchen. 

Acknowledging its outstanding ecological performance and compliance with sustainability benchmarks, the building was awarded the DGNB Gold certification.
