SOLCLEF’s new offices in Madrid were conceived as a warm, efficient, and highly functional workspace that reflects the company’s identity and fosters a more flexible way of working.
Workspace Arquitectura executed the project using an integrated design-and-build approach, taking responsibility for the entire process—from interior design and technical development to construction, furniture selection, and final implementation. Spanning approximately 500 m², the project began with a completely open, empty floor plan, allowing the design team to create a bespoke workspace from scratch.
The project's core concept was to combine warmth, ergonomics, acoustic comfort, and brand identity. As a company dedicated to energy production via concentrated solar power plants, SOLCLEF required a workspace that conveyed its connection to energy, innovation, and sustainability without resorting to overly corporate or literal gestures. The result is an understated yet warm interior, where neutral tones are enriched by accents of orange and terracotta that subtly evoke sunlight, heat, and solar energy.
The layout is organized around a clear sequence of workspaces, meeting areas, and social spaces. The reception serves as the initial point of contact with the brand, creating an elegant and dramatic welcome through the use of textured finishes, integrated lighting, and a strategically placed corporate identity element. From there, the office opens into a bright, open-plan workspace, complemented by enclosed work areas, meeting rooms of various sizes, and a spacious office zone designed to foster informal interaction.
A key aspect of the project was the creation of various types of meeting spaces. Small round tables facilitate quick, agile conversations, while larger meeting rooms offer a more formal atmosphere. A meeting room with a high table was designed for collaborative work sessions, and a more informal meeting area featuring a sofa and armchairs also serves as a waiting area for visitors. This variety of spaces allows the office to adapt to different work dynamics throughout the day.
Ergonomics played a fundamental role in the design. All workstations—including executive and private office desks—are height-adjustable, allowing users to alternate between sitting and standing. Humanscale monitor arms were incorporated to improve posture, visual comfort, and daily well-being. This ergonomic approach transforms the workplace into a more adaptable and healthy environment for the team.
Acoustic comfort was another key factor in the design. Textile finishes, acoustic panels, and suspended sound-absorbing elements help soften the atmosphere in open-plan areas and meeting rooms. Glass partitions preserve natural light and visual continuity while maintaining the necessary separation between different workspaces. The result is an office that conveys a sense of spaciousness and connection, yet also comfort and control.
The material palette was selected to strike a balance between understated elegance and warmth. Stone-effect finishes on the partitions, wood surfaces on the furniture, gray carpeting, and black metal details create a contemporary, refined atmosphere. Orange and terracotta upholstery adds a distinctive identity, linking the office's visual language to SOLCLEF’s work in the solar energy sector.
Natural light is one of the space's key qualities. The office benefits from large windows and city views, while the lighting design combines efficient general lighting with decorative, suspended fixtures that provide warmer light. This layered lighting strategy helps define distinct atmospheres throughout the office, ranging from focused work areas to meeting rooms and informal spaces.
The project also incorporates a practical approach to sustainability. The office utilizes LED lighting, occupancy sensors, and natural light for general lighting control, as well as textiles with recycled content, sound-absorbing panels, and FSC-certified wood finishes. In addition to these specific measures, the design prioritizes durability, flexibility, and long-term use, reducing the need for unnecessary future interventions.
SOLCLEF Offices is a workspace designed to be both representative and truly functional: a contemporary office that fosters concentration, collaboration, and informal interaction, while expressing the company’s values through materiality, color, comfort, and spatial clarity.
