Steinbeis-Headquarter Stuttgart-Hohenheim

The new headquarter of the Steinbeis Network was built on the directly adjacent triangular site of the SHMT, another one of our Projects which was finished in 2000. The new Building with its irregular footprint makes extensive use of the available space of the building site. The double wall façade presents exposed concrete on either side, with the outer layer still being able to freely shift from the inner load bearing walls. On the upper floors the façade follows a steady rhythm of generous, identical openings, whereas on the ground floor the floor-to-ceiling windows react to the individual uses of the internal space as well as visually opening up the foyer to the exterior. The inside is structured into four different units by an asymmetrical atrium which is lit by a Skylight right in its centre. In addition, through ist sculptural spiral staircase, it also serves as the vertical access throughout the building. On the ground floor the central utility core shields the more private conference spaces from the open foyer. Through the generous Windows of the outer façade and the inner façade towards the atrium we were able to create bright and functional office spaces which not only serve as individual work stations but also provide room for communication.
