Stubn — Frasdorfer Hütte, Frasdorf, Germany

Nestled in the foothills of the Chiemgau Alps, the Frasdorfer Hütte has been reimagined by BAND Architektur as a place where architecture, food, and landscape converge. The renovation reinterprets a traditional mountain hut for contemporary use — as a restaurant with guest rooms — without losing the raw, regional character that defines it.

On the exterior, a shingle façade was restored alongside a reconstructed entrance door with its original historic fittings, while a reinterpreted alpine balcony railing bridges old craft and new form. Inside, lime plaster walls, a reclaimed and resanded wood floor, and an original tiled stove ground the space in its history, while an open fireplace kitchen brings the act of cooking into full view of the dining room.

The project's guiding idea is sensory: an experience built on regional ingredients, careful craft, and an awareness of what lies behind things — the landscape, the produce, the people at the table. The dining rooms can be used together or divided, offering flexibility across seasons and occasions. Upstairs, the guest rooms are pared back to their essentials — quiet colors, restrained lighting, and natural materials create a sense of calm, with family rooms tucked under the roof for younger guests.
