Png I + II is a two house complex on the island of Antiparos. They are located in the east part of the island, facing the island of Paros, and looking straight ahead to the Aegean Sea. Both of the houses have been inspired by Antiparos landscape, which has been, for ages, designed by “pezoules” - short stone walls-.

Png I + II have been conceived as buildings which naturally emerge through the archetypal Cycladic landscape. The two buildings which are designed as a continuous line and linked together through a natural curve, become part of the greater landscape.

Stone walls which follow the natural curves of the landscape, organize the interior and exterior life of the summer house. Open and closed spaces are described as a combination of platforms - “platomata” scattered along narrow streets, footpaths, designed by “pezoules”. Walking along these footpaths, everyday, is divided into all the expanses of life in summer; from public space to privacy, from sun to shadow, from wind to silence. The houses adopt the characteristics of a concave and a convex wall, that opens itself to the view, following the terrain.

The buildings’ program is quite basic and simple as both serve as summer residences. Human needs, during summer time, become as primitive as possible. Each space can be transformed from external into internal. Sleeping, sitting, leisure areas function as one.

The idea of emerging from and being merged to the landscape is reinforced by the construction materials which are local. All the walls are made by local stone. The roofs are covered by local pebble and local marble is used for all the floors – the “pavements”.
