On the former site of the old Marnixbad (Marnix Bath) built in 1955, sits the new Sports Centre het Marnix which features a modern array of fitness facilities. The old swimming pool facility also housed various functions including a bathhouse and a washroom. Although functionally out of date, the old Marnixbad was a striking building that served as a source of inspiration for the design of the new sports centre.

The former building’s swimming pool was built against the glass facade which jutted out over the canal forming an attractive clear architectural structure. The guiding principle for the present design is derived from the transparency of the former building, translated into prospect, insight and overview.
