Title Symmetrical house in Urk: innovative and sustainable

1op1 Architectuur as Architects

An innovative, symmetrical home with a preserved foundation. Aesthetic and sustainable thanks to vibrant colors and a wooden skeleton structure.

The project is a remarkable construction project that embodies the principles of simple and versatile solutions. The team has adopted a creative approach by building an entirely new home while preserving the existing foundation. This has resulted in an innovative solution for the former bungalow, which initially had a limited first floor due to the shallow slope of the roof.

The design concept is carefully tailored to the surroundings, with special attention given to the newly landscaped garden, swimming pool, and outbuildings. This has not only ensured functionality but also an optimal visual and lighting experience. The home features a symmetrical layout, with one half shifted forward to create more space at the back. Additionally, a gallery and canopy have been added to the garden, and each half of the house has a gable to enhance symmetry.

Aesthetics and sustainability were central to the design process. The use of bright colors and strong lines has resulted in a visually appealing design that stands out in the environment. Furthermore, a wooden skeleton structure and carefully selected materials have been chosen to ensure durability and stability. The solid wooden skeleton supports not only the roof, mezzanine, and floor but also acts as a frame for the windows and sunshades, serving multiple functions and enhancing the overall value of the project.

The project faced challenges, particularly in the delivery of the wooden construction material. Through thorough engineering and careful planning of the fitting and connections of the skeleton, the team managed to resolve the supplier issues and restore the guarantees. The experience and expertise of 1op1 Architecture were invaluable in overcoming these obstacles and successfully completing the project.

By employing a full-service approach, the team was able to realize their vision and achieve a successful outcome that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
