Perkins Eastman gave new life to a historic building and designed a modern tower to establish a new luxury boutique hotel on New York City’s iconic Fifth Avenue at West 28th Street. The team worked alongside the developers, operators, and PBDW Architects to study this opportunity and create a lifestyle destination. A former bank that was designed in the early 1900s by McKim, Mean & White offered the optimal base. The bank’s historical restoration and the new landmark tower are both suited for the landmark protected neighborhood.
The tower brings a new visual interest to 28th street, showcasing precast concrete features, stone cladding and metal frame windows arranged in prominent vertical sets. A vaulted two-story space welcomes guests inside the renovated bank, including the hotel’s signature restaurant, lounges, a ballroom, and other hotel amenities. The spacious private suites overlooking Fifth Avenue and guest rooms spread throughout both buildings provide a relaxing atmosphere in the heart of the city.
