The Introverted House

As the name of the house suggests, this is an introvert house. Privacy and security is the pivot around which this house is designed without shutting it out from the outside world. The introverted configuration creates beautiful vistas within the house. Strategically placed windows and skylights ensure the house remains well-lit without compromising on the privacy of the inhabitants.

Exaggerated heights and clerestories in the circulation space ensure a temperate environment inside the house by making use of “stack effect”. Moreover, the program of the house has been configured keeping in mind the sun orientation at different times throughout the day, maximizing daylight inside yet minimizing heat inside. All spaces of the house are intertwined in such a way that they merge into each other making the whole greater than the sum of its parts.

The flooring is kept stark white throughout the house in order to amplify the light coming in from all the fenestrations. Raw concrete walls with brass inlay present a spectacular fusion of materials that complement the wooden staircase.

The courtyard is integrated into the design in such a way so as to make it the focal point of the exterior of the house. With its movable wooden louvers and its connection with interior entertainment areas, the courtyard defies the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces.
