Two-family house in Kokubunji

A+Sa | Araki+Sasaki architects as Architects

Two-family house in Kokubunjiis built on the quiet site where no cars can pass.

The based volume of the house is  a rectangular shape with 3.62m in the short side. This volume is placed on the long site in the north-south direction.

Some elements, which are the extended dining room, the protruding balcony, the  staircase, the entrance porch, are overflowed from the basic volume and make the house  to more expansive and relaxed space.

In addition, the operation of these irregularities also affects the external space. The long and narrow garden integrated with the pass creates a place for children to play.

Material Used :

1. galvalume: exterior wall of the house
2. galvalume: roof of the house
4. white ash: floor of the house
5. steel grating and red cedar: balcony
