Situated in the serene village of Odeigne, nestled within the captivating Ardenne forest, an exciting architectural project presented itself as we embarked on the transformation of an ancient farmhouse and barn into a remarkable rental house and corporate retreat, accommodating up to 20 individuals. The primary objective of the design was to honor and preserve the grand volume of the barn, which became the focal point of the renovation.
To achieve this, the interior spaces were carefully organized into two blocks of rooms that gracefully hover on either side of a generously sized central common space. This design gesture allows the original structure to shine, commanding attention and reverence. Great care was taken to preserve the existing architectural elements, ensuring they take center stage and become the highlight of the overall space.
The farmhouse and barn's historical and architectural significance were cherished throughout the transformation process. The exterior facade underwent sensitive restoration, showcasing the authentic materials and celebrating their innate beauty. Inside, the exposed beams and columns in the barn were skillfully revealed, creating a breathtaking display of the structure's rich heritage and character.
The interior layout was meticulously planned to cater to the needs of both relaxation and productivity. The two blocks of rooms provide private sanctuaries for guests, offering tranquil spaces that blend harmoniously with the rustic surroundings. Each room was thoughtfully designed, embracing modern comforts while paying homage to the traditional elements that define the farmhouse and barn.
The central common space acts as the heart of the rental house and corporate retreat, facilitating social interaction, collaboration, and relaxation. This expansive area, carefully furnished and adorned, invites guests to gather, unwind, and engage in meaningful connections. The open plan design allows for seamless movement and connectivity, promoting a sense of togetherness while preserving the grandeur of the barn's voluminous space.
Throughout the renovation, a delicate balance was struck between the old and the new, resulting in a space that embraces both heritage and contemporary design. The existing structure serves as a guiding force, dictating the architectural language and inspiring the overall aesthetic. Modern elements were introduced with care, complementing and enhancing the inherent charm of the farmhouse and barn.
The natural surroundings of Odeigne were embraced in the design, fostering a harmonious relationship between the rental house and corporate retreat and its environment. The enchanting Ardenne forest serves as a captivating backdrop, creating a seamless integration between indoor and outdoor spaces. Private outdoor areas were carefully crafted, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature and offering moments of solace and contemplation.
In conclusion, the transformation of the old farmhouse and barn in Odeigne is an architectural testament to preservation and reverence. Through careful planning and execution, the project successfully maintains the grand volume of the barn while creating a harmonious balance between the historical and the contemporary. The rental house and corporate retreat stand as a testament to the captivating beauty of the past, reimagined for the present, and seamlessly integrated into the scenic landscape of Odeigne.
