This project involved the phased renovation of a prestigious villa located just outside Basel.
Led by MWA Architecture, the intervention was carefully designed to blend harmoniously into the daily life of the English family who has been living in the house for about three years.
The first phase focused on completely relocating the kitchen, which was originally positioned in a small, enclosed space. It was moved to a bright, spacious room that had previously been used as an artist’s studio.
This shift was anything but simple: the new area lacked plumbing and drainage, posing a significant technical challenge. It was overcome through meticulous planning and a well-coordinated effort between all parties involved.
The clients had high expectations for this kitchen, which they envisioned not just as a functional space, but as the vibrant heart of the home—a place where design, warmth, and personality come together, ideal for both everyday living and special moments.
For the construction, locally based contractors were selected for their reliability and deep knowledge of the region.
The kitchen itself, the project’s true centerpiece, was custom-designed by ErnestoMeda, a leading name in Italian design.
Equally crucial was the contribution of ErnestoMeda’s Swiss partner, who ensured flawless technical precision—merging Italian craftsmanship with Swiss accuracy.
MWA’s approach consistently emphasizes the value of Made in Italy, choosing high-quality materials and collaborating with Italian artisans and companies known for excellence.
