Located in the heart of Basel’s historic center, this apartment renovation pays tribute to the city’s architectural heritage by carefully preserving and enhancing the original character of the space.
The intervention focused on restoring traditional construction elements while subtly integrating modern comfort and functionality.
Wherever possible, original materials such as natural timber flooring, lime-based plasters and handcrafted fittings were retained. In areas requiring intervention, new elements were introduced ensuring a seamless dialogue between old and new.
The design respects the proportions and spatial logic typical of Basel’s historical dwellings, while the overall palette and detailing reflect a timeless, understated elegance.
By working closely with local craftsmen and specialists, the project emphasizes authenticity, continuity and a deep sense of place, turning this historic apartment into a refined, contemporary home rooted in tradition.
