Home Sweet Home | Auckland New House

An award-winning new house in Auckland, New Zealand, Home Sweet Home is a Grey Lynn residence built as a sequence of discoveries, with sunken lounges, tucked-away snugs and quiet corners that reveal themselves one by one. It’s a sanctuary made for slowing down, where thoughtful architecture, playful colour and carefully considered interiors come together to create a home with warmth, character and personality. Nestled in one of Auckland’s most beloved city-fringe suburbs, this house sits quietly at the end of a leafy cul-de-sac. Unlike the standard rectangular sections nearby, the site is triangular, with a steep slope at the rear. As a result, the unusual geometry called for a creative response, turning the constraints of the... More

Dynamic House

The project “Dynamic House,” curated by Arch. Ada Garaffa in Via G. A. Cartia in Ragusa, redefines a private terraced house through a progressive interior transformation that treats space, light, and material as components of a single continuous architectural system. Ph Enrico Cascone Ph Enrico Cascone Ph Enrico Cascone Ph Enrico Cascone Ph Enrico Cascone The intervention focuses exclusively on the interior of the existing building, leaving the external envelope unchanged. Within this constraint, the project addresses the challenge of reinterpreting a conventional residential layout into a more fluid and perceptually rich domestic environment. Rather than reorganizing spaces in a purely functional way,... More

Apartment with artistic twist

In this project, the transformation began with reworking the functional layout. The first step was relocating the bathroom doorway, as having the bathroom door directly opposite the apartment entrance was not an option. Among the standout features of this interior are a hand-drawn, custom-printed wallpaper, Italian electrical fittings, and distinctive terrazzo-pattern tiles. Villa LeD

This project involved the phased renovation of a prestigious villa located just outside Basel.Led by MWA Architecture, the intervention was carefully designed to blend harmoniously into the daily life of the English family who has been living in the house for about three years. The first phase focused on completely relocating the kitchen, which was originally positioned in a small, enclosed space. It was moved to a bright, spacious room that had previously been used as an artist’s studio. This shift was anything but simple: the new area lacked plumbing and drainage, posing a significant technical challenge. It was overcome through meticulous planning and a well-coordinated effort between all parties involved. Nic Hahne The... More

Warm, minimalist apartment for a family of three

Artist, interior designer, and ardor—studio founder Michiel Hilbrink designed a 60sqm/645sqft home for his family of three in Amsterdam’s east end. The peaceable, minimalist, and timeless space is a study in achieving comfort without clutter.   The top-floor apartment with tall, pitched ceilings offers a comfortable lifestyle for its small size. A generous bathroom followed by a nursery greets you upon entry, giving shape to a corridor that opens into a sizable, blended living-dining-kitchen area; a staircase at the far end winds up to a modest mezzanine bedroom. A thread of minimalism runs throughout the home’s design, but is offset by pops of colour and rustic, natural touches.   The balance of peaceablenes... More

Apartment with a Library

Olbos Studio www.olbosstudio.com announces the completion of its latest endeavor: a remarkable small apartment renovation that showcases the power of creativity, trust and collaboration. Despite its modest size, this project stands as a testament to Olbos Studio's unwavering commitment to originality and excellence. Filippo Tommasoli Located within a residential building in the QT8 neighborhood of Milan, the 55-square-meter apartment posed a series of challenges, ranging from bureaucratic hurdles to coordinating a team across three different time zones. The layout itself was particularly unconventional due to the neighboring unit's staircase, which intruded into the space with an irregular, convex curved volume, which required a bespo... More

Mt Martha

The transformation of this Mount Martha residence has elevated it from dated to delightful. Drawing inspiration from the coastal colours and textures of the Mornington Peninsula, we sprinkled our magic over every inch of the house with new materials, textured furnishings, a new kitchen and bathrooms to create a light, warm and layered contemporary home. The clients engaged our Studio to rejuvenate and modernise their house. They wanted a place they felt proud to call home and recognised the value in investing in quality materials and updating joinery to a contemporary design. With very little structural modifications required to the interior, we elevated the beauty and functionality of the spaces with a soft-white, textural and natural pal... More

Villa ABC

For our clients in Lebbeke, we set to work on their existing home. The layout of the house needed to be rethought to improve its circulation. With 2 teenagers growing up, there was also the need for more space and a new, practical bathroom. Ypsilon Business Photography The main intervention became the demolition of the existing volume at the back of the house. Instead, a new volume was added, including a new rooftop dormer. This intervention increased the useful floor area on the ground floor as well as on the first floor. The entire rear façade is made up of glass sections for maximum connection with the garden. open plan living

This mid-century terraced house in the west of Edinburgh had been home to our clients, a family of four, for several years. The house had previously been extended to the front, resulting in a long narrow kitchen, separated from the living room. The disjointed layout meant that the family were often in separate spaces, unable to speak to each other.  The owners were keen to create a more open-plan and sociable layout, with the kitchen at its heart. Alix McIntosh Moving the living spaces to the back of the house was a key design proposal.  This creates a full-width space, and allows it to benefit from the natural light provided by the large windows to the garden.  Glazed doors also provide a physical link to the garden. &...
