X SEA TY, the first totally bio-energy city.

Offshore Utopia It is an offshore town, an island gained from the oceans and it works with the energy of the the sea, its swells and its currents. It uses the ocean energy to regulate its heat transfers. It produces biochemical energy massively, by photosynthesis on its façades, according to an original method conceived by XTU with the exclusive partnership of an industrial biochemist.

It exports its production of primary energy by pipe-line or liquefied gas tanker. It consumes a huge amount of carbon dioxide necessary for the biochemical production. It converts the carbon dioxyde into oxygen, into biomass energy, into vegetable proteins. So, the polluting fumes of the industrial towns are its resources. It is a huge air putifier.

Established near large industrial centres, on the shore of the Yellow Sea or near Korean or Japanese ports, it gets its carbon dioxyde supply directly by pipe-line from the factories or the thermal power-plants. It can also be offshore so as to take advantage of the best climatic conditions. In that case the carbon dioxyde is brought by tanker.

It has been conceived to answer the energy and land needs of the Asian cities. Based on the principles of total pooling, it incorporates in its very structure processes of energy production and processes of recycling organic waste or biomass by means of aquaculture. As it works entirely from the living matter, it revolutionizes the traditional town planning.

The town is dense, teeming, three-dimensional, made of sky-scrapers gathered into « bushes » holding and bracing each other. Together they form a macrostructure inspired from coral reefs. Either a business city or a residential town, it brings together office towers and appartment blocks, community and leisure facilities. So that the public transports are fluent and limited.

The urban centres develop on various levels of the town, as near the population as possible and they are linked to each other into radiating networks. According to the height, the view changes, lacustrian below and aerial above as if there were several towns in one. It is a world of ultra-density. It is also a world of biodiversity :

> Beside the office façades producing bio-energy, the appartment façades are made of microporous concrete enriched with nutrients so as to help the colonizing plants take roots. Those « honey-combed » façades are a shelter for birds.

> Besides, the mass production of vegetable and fish proteins changes the predation relation men/animals. On the salt-meadows of that urban island the freed animals can move about as they like.

The island of course can grow, it is an utopian manifesto for eco-city-dwellers.
