10x Genomics Campus

Landscape Forms como Fabricantes
Founded only a decade ago in a Bay Area garage, 10x Genomics has rocketed to success in biotech, today employing over 1,200 people as an industry-leading firm. In support of this rapid growth, a new, state-of-the-art campus in Pleasanton, CA is well underway, already celebrating the ribbon cutting on phase one of the project.

Headed by global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm HOK, the new campus has been conceived as a “science village set within a park.” Replacing a former strip mall, the campus plan includes three buildings—the first of which has been completed—all surrounded by a wealth of green space that prioritizes pedestrian connections, brings people closer to nature, and embraces the landscape beauty of Northern California.

“The landscape design reflects a commitment to enhancing outdoor workplaces and provides socially valuable green space to the surrounding community,” describes Benjamin Kuchinsky, Senior Landscape Architect at HOK.

Enabling the site to give back to its community was a key goal for HOK and its client, resulting in the creation of publicly accessible outdoor space around the campus periphery and the construction of fourteen-foot-wide bike and pedestrian paths where there previously were no sidewalks.

Throughout the campus—lining the paths, illuminating the plazas, welcoming outdoor work and evening gatherings—Motive area lights play a leading role in creating a clean, modern yet friendly and welcoming identity.

"It’s one of those product lines that I’ve liked from the moment I saw it,” says Kuchinsky. "When we have success with a certain solutions, we tend to use them on repeat projects, and Motive is becoming one of those go-to lighting solutions for us to specify.”

Motive’s contemporary, understated and elegant design proved to be a perfect pairing for the new campus. The area lights can be found throughout both the public and private areas, complementing the building (whose design is informed by DNA barcode sequencing) and helping establish a cohesive aesthetic that permeates the entire campus.

"We wanted lighting that tells the story of the very sleek, cutting-edge technology that our client specializes in,” Kuchinsky describes. "Motive just has a clean, modern aesthetic that speaks to this narrative of science and technology in a way that we couldn’t find in other products."
