Arabian Red

“Sand, sun, earth, fire. The desert is a magical place where nature diminishes anything man may attempt to build. Arabian Red frames the desert expanding views over its dunes and the horizon. A shelter to welcome friends and guests sharing conversations at the slow rhythm of the dancing smoke of a shisha while contemplating the movement of the sun through the shadows of the dunes.”

The project of the new 1,900 sqm residential building arises from the consideration of the context as the generating element of the entire design idea, both for the interior and exterior spaces. The surrounding desert, serves as backdrop to define the house’s openings, light sources, and the private external areas.

The core of the house is a secret Majlis – the Arab word for sitting room referring to types of special gathering among common interests’ group. The big room is clad in corten steel paneling, large ribbon windows overlook the surrounding desert dunes, extending views outward, where a second open-air Majlis and the garden are located.

The master bedroom overlooks through a large glass curtain wall a private outdoor space with the pool and the sunbathing area. Corten steel paneling emerges from the perimeter of the built area, becoming a sort of enclosure of the space that allows a glimpse of the desert among its Arabian red hues.
