Floating House

Jose Campos Architectural Photographer como Fotógrafos

Modularity A romantic gateway for two or a mobile house in the middle of a lake for the entire family or a group of friends, with a fixed width of 6 meters and lengths ranging from 10 to 18 meters, the possibilities are almost endless. Whether you want a cozy studio or a fully furnished three-bedroom house with two bathrooms, the freedom of nature is on your doorstep.

Mobility With two small outboard motors, you can take your time to enjoy your trip at a moderate speed of 3 knots and wake up in a different place every day.

Transportability The modular design of the house means that all its components, including equipment and furniture, can be easily stored in two standard containers and shipped to almost anywhere on the planet.

Eco-consciousness It has been designed with low environmentally impactful materials and technologies that reduce its carbon footprint and lower its energy needs. It has a compact activated sludge wastewater treatment plant.

Autonomy When charged, the house is self-sufficient for at least seven days. It produces up to 80% of its annual energy needs (100% for over six months).

Life and leisure With a fully equipped kitchen for everyday use, heat pump and AC generator, a barbecue on the upper terrace for sunny days and a wine cellar and pellet stove to keep you warm on cold days, the list of facilities included guarantees a great living experience, whether you choose to use it as a base camp for numerous outdoor activities such as sailing, paddling, water skiing or fishing, or simply as a treasure island to relax.

EQUIPMENT LEVELS

LEVEL 1 The floating house is tied to the bank and has fixed connections to municipal networks. Autonomy and mobility are secondary to the benefits of comfort and price. There is no need for motorisation. Thermal and photovoltaic solar panels are not essential but may exist as with any other housing.

LEVEL 2 The floating house gains autonomy and mobility. It has its own motorisation which provides you with moderate mobility (3 knots) and reasonable energy autonomy (5 m² of solar panels and 23 m² of photovoltaic panels) with a solar sourced energy component of around 65% across the annual cycle, and 100% for four months of the year. The water supply and wastewater are stored in their own tanks with capacity for a 7-day stay.

LEVEL 3 The floating house is endowed with a more consistent battery of solar panels (31 m²) and a pellet stove. Excluding mobility, energy autonomy now stands at 85% across the annual cycle, and at 100% for 6 months. The floating house also now has a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), including primary and secondary treatment by activated sludge.

LEVEL 4 (EXPERIMENTAL) The WWTP now includes advanced tertiary treatment by ceramic membrane filtration that allows for final disposal into the water below under completely sanitary conditions (EEC Directive 91/271). Onboard water storage is only for food preparation and personal hygiene. The remaining water needs (cisterns, outdoor hoses, cleaning, etc.) are addressed through direct uptake from the watercourse and appropriate treatment through a mini supply water treatment plant. For six months of the year, between April and September, the floating house does not need any kind of refuelling or maintenance. This period of autonomy can be extended to one year with just some stored fuel and bags of pellets.
