Architectural idea
The concept and expression of a building was inspired by form of a Kalajoki's River coastline where church will be located. The curved line of a peninsula forms a plan of a church, expression of facades, forms the whole silhouette and blends into interior. The altar is being oriented in east direction, while main entrance towards west. Laconic, emphatically straight line of southern facade contrasts with dynamic curves seen in other facades and continues perimeter of Valtakatu street with a pedestrian walkway close by. The expressive bell tower with a cross - icon of a church, sallys near towards city centre acting like a landmark.
Plan solution
Car parking is located in the western side near the main entrance. The sculpture of Väino Lätin „Lakeuden liekki“ is being transferred to a new location in a park. Alley of transplanted cypresses highlights plaza in front of the main entrance. Space near the main hall is separated with a upgradeable wall. The parish hall can be either connected or disconnected to the main hall forming one huge space for 600 people. The organ and choir room is hidden with a partition wall behind the main altar. The pipes of organ soars above the main altar. Music rushes with no clear vision of player giving sense of mystery. In the very eastern side of the church hall the sacristy is located as well as an entrance to the bell tower, which is open for tourists and visitors to enjoy the city panoramas and surroundings of a church.
