Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

The Center for Advanced Pediatrics exemplifies the theme of “Nurture through Nature.“The positive healing effects of nature have been well documented; so, the design team aimed to blur the line between outdoors and indoors.  By providing ample daylight, views and access to the garden, patients and their families are more connected to nature.  On the exterior, the two stair towers represent the earthen edges of a waterfall – with red terracotta representing red Georgia clay. The intervening blue glass curtainwall utilizes vertical curved mullions to replicate the random way water moves down the waterfall. As the day becomes night, the vertical tower elements are lit by LED fixtures in the horizontal fins that allo... More

Studio Arthur Casas always intends to create a new world within each project, considering users as the center of the experience. Unleash new perceptions, feelings and connections through materiality, lighting, color, and texture is the essence of our design. In our proposal for Kosushi Restaurant, located in Miami, these elements had a key role in the project's development, creating an atmosphere capable of offering to customers the complete experience of a Japanese vernacular architecture combined with contemporary references.   The woodworking was used to cause moments of wonder and surprise. The structure's design was inspired by Japanese carpentry, in particular the art of joinery, which consists of creating wooden structures wit... More

Dogtrot House

DOGTROT HOUSE refurbishes a bungalow from 1926 which has undergone numerous renovations. Surveys indicate that the house was originally a two-unit “dog trot”, a uniquely American typology, here re-interpreted in a contemporary configuration. Ibai Rigby Four independent ‘cabins’ sit between a deck and a roof. These units articulate two breeze-ways, ‘trots’, that separate functions and bring exterior features to the interior. Each cabin is singularly tasked for either Living, Cooking, or Sleeping. One trot accommodates the open tasks of dining and office, while the other serves as an axis between the front and back doors. Ibai Rigby Movement between cabins requires passage through either Trot vi... More

K&Co Restaurant

K&Co is a healthy food restaurant, following the Ecocook principles, the first one in Madrid with this international certificate.   Plantea Estudio started from a plain space in a peripheral neighborhood in Madrid, trying to achieve a fresh and luminous ambient, without superfluous elements or atrezzo. Architecture tries to correspond directly with the restaurant character. Offers a warm place in an environment in need of quality and design, the same that can be found at the city center, but free of decoration and tendencies.   The materials used in construction respond equally to a ‘sustainable’ idea. Continuous cement floors, ceramic block walls, wood fiber boards on the ceiling, iron and plywood bespoke made... More

In Between Gardens

In Between Gardens is a commercial space renovation designed following a bioclimatic architecture approach.  The main objective was to optimize the capture of solar radiation in order to reduce the energy consumption. Built with a reduced budget, the design tries to get a comfortable user experience from a visual, acoustic and olfactory point of view. Sun and nature are the design pillars. Sun defines the access hall depth, as well as the floor pattern and its materials. The store’s showcase position is defined by the facade’s hole shadow projected on solar noon winter solstice day. This bioclimatic strategy improves the solar radiation captured on winter days through the glass, while stopping it on summer days, avoiding... More

Observatório da Charneca

The elected place for the purpose was a rural warehouse located in Gaviãozinho homestead, in the municipality of Chamusca, Ribatejo, central Portugal. This warehouse is sided to the southern side by other agriculture buildings, to the west, bordered by a road and cornfield, and to the north, opened to the cork oak landscape.  With 3 elevations available, we worked the relationship of the building with its natural surroundings to match that environment with the interior space. Villa Pistache

French studio Caprini & Pellerin Architectes was formed 10 years ago out of a longstanding friendship between architects Kevin Caprini and Jerry Pellerin. Villa Pistache has been closely conceptualised with the clients in order to give the home a ‘specific soul’. “The clients are friends of mine, it was a real participatory project between the client and us,” Je...
