The Moda Pier, a historical structure designed by Vedat Tek in 1916-1917, underwent a re-functioning project to revive its role in Kadıköy's sea transportation. The restoration and re-functioning aimed to integrate the pier into contemporary needs while preserving its historical significance. The ground level, transformed into a book-cafe and working area, features an open-plan space. Removal of additional walls created a flexible layout, offering various scenarios. Working together with a passionate car collector who owns a rural estate we have finished the design of two spaces for the growing collection of vintage and contemporary automobiles. Formed by two vaulted grid-shells in steel and glass that are nestled into the hillside, the exhibition spaces are part of a sequence of pavilions set into the extensive landscaped grounds. The tree cover and rolling hills of the context make them a distinguished and crystalline presence in nature. Kaomai Tea Barn is a continuously adaptive-reuse project within Kaomai Estate 1955, the revitalized project of a multi-decade tobacco processing plant estate in Chiang Mai. In 2018, Kaomai Estate 1955 was awarded by the 2018 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation in New Design in Heritage Contexts category. As part of the incremental plan to unite new commercial programs in the estate, the project location is carefully placed to respect, yet link the surrounding ecology, landscape and existing buildings together. The listed Haus Zur Sommerau in Uetikon is situ­ated on a ridge in the immediate vicinity of school buildings, a community centre and the Uetikon Kirchenhügel. The property is defined by the large front garden with its bordered, circular “Brezelwegen”, garden beds, fences and historical garden gates and is a reminder of the prestigious buildings of the upper classes. The house was likely built in 1902 by Karl August Veit, architect of the Weissenrain schoolhouse, which lies in front of the building and with which it shares a strong resemblance – both are realised in the historical style. The long and colorful history of Haapsalu Castle began in the 13th century, when it was built. Since the 17th century the main castle has been in ruins.   The conservation and renovation design has resulted in a journey along the walls and within the castle, inviting the guests to take a look at the castle structure and the picturesque town of Haapsalu from an unusual vantage point high above, and to experience the medieval environment from another level. A catalytic regeneration project within the Leicester Waterside Situated on the banks of the River Soar, Friars Mill is Leicester’s oldest wool mill, dating back to the 18th century. As the wool and textile industry thrived, and technology developed, the site around the original mill became densely occupied with buildings. However, by the end of the 20th century, the owners had moved on and the premises lay empty, falling into disrepair and eventually suffering a fire that destroyed the roof of the main mill. At this point, Leicester City Council stepped in, buying the Grade II listed buildings and site to safeguard their future. The proposal relates to the construction of a new contemporary two-storey brick extension to an historic Edwardian house. The design of the proposed extension has been defined by the site conditions and constraints. The most unique characteristic of 1 Milman Road is the corner bay window. Most houses at the end of terrace terminate in a blank brick side elevation, most notably the building at the rear of the garden, along Harvist Road. On this property however, the terrace turns the corner and continues onto the Harvist Road elevation by using a distinct corner bay window.
