Gringley Hall is a classic English home that required a more modern addition to house a bespoke kitchen and dining area with access to the garden. London’s longest pier, Royal Wharf includes a 162m² viewing platform for unparalleled views along the River Thames, now surrounded by a glass balustrade safety railing.  Like many river-side locations, the view is spectacular and is preserved for the enjoyment of those walking by. This landmark project is situated on a prime corner of the Boundary Park Industrial Park development in Northriding, Johannesburg. The site location, coupled with the tenant’s large staff compliment, led to a somewhat unconventional office to warehouse ratio of 60:40 instead of the more typical 90:10 ratio. The project proposes the reinterpretation of an enlarged intervention area, in which the construction of the new secondary school building represents the inclusion of an additional pavilion within a large park dedicated to sports and exercise as the main tool for prevention and health promotion. The existing structures, gymnasium and polyclinic, are incorporated into the ground design within a coherent system: targeted earth movements, new plantings and soft design of paths allow to stitch the area from the resulting spaces, restoring a hierarchy that brings back to the center the enjoyment of the outdoor space.
