Located in a historic building in the Old Town of Bilbao, this project proposes the renovation of a home in which the image of the past and the present coexist, placing emphasis on the choice of natural materials and attention to detail of integrated furniture. Luis Díaz Díaz Luis Díaz Díaz Our main objective was to return the home to the splendor it would have enjoyed at the time of its construction. Although important architectural interventions were made, the ceilings were raised to the maximum and original rooms were expanded and unified, the most valuable architectural elements of the property were highlighted and characteristic historical elements were reintroduced such as cornices or timber wind... Riverside Drive Apartment

This midcentury modern-inspired Riverside Drive Apartment is a combined 2,500-square-foot apartment. It is designed as a home for a family of five that would continue to accommodate the children as they grow older. The apartment renovation transformed the space by relocating the entrance and creating a generous foyer adjacent to the new enlarged kitchen. Alan Tansey Alan Tansey Alan Tansey The former entry area was converted into a family room den, which became the favorite space for the family to hang out, play video games and watch TV. Mid Century Redux

The existing house was a well-constructed, largely intact, midcentury modern house located on a sloping site in a leafy Washington, DC suburb. Beyond maintaining the integrity of the existing architecture, our clients approached us with three major objectives. The first was to incorporate age-in-place elements including a primary suite on the same level as the kitchen and living spaces. The second was to provide spaces for the two owners hobbies:  a chef’s kitchen that had all the storage and technology for baking and a full wood shop for turning bowls. The third was to create comfortable dedicated office spaces. Caption Caption An addition at the front of the building unifies the two wings of the house with a light fi... More

Pastel Aesthetics

“For any design, a poised colour palette and minimalism sets the right tone!” Everything about this design looms out because of the way natural light pours in. Specially the morning light that fills up the space creates a perfect setting for a cosy, bright and airy space. The design was conceptualised keeping a young couple in mind who moved to their maiden home in this maximum city. Being a gracious host, the couple wanted to create a cosy, homely setting perfect for sitting back with a cup of coffee or entertaining a small group of friends and family. ‘Storage and more storage’ were the prime concern, for which they vouched on us (Hrishikesh More Architects). National Presbyterian Church Addition & Renovation

Following BBB’s 2016 Master Plan for the National Presbyterian Church, the project is the first major alteration since the completion of the building, designed by Harold E. Wagoner, in 1967. The Church is listed on the DC Inventory of Historic Sites. BBB designed two additions which expand the Main Church building; in the first, new meeting rooms clad in salvaged limestone with large glass entrances open onto the new outdoor terrace and an expanded roof terrace above, overlooking an existing garden. A second addition of a new rear entry seamlessly integrates with the historic fabric and welcomes visitors and members into the heart of the Church campus, with two new elevators serving all three levels of the Church. Within the main Chu... More

WorkHouse

Overview WorkHouse involves an extensive refurbishment to the first Harry Seidler-designed commercial building in Haymarket, Sydney. The brief seeks to return the upper levels of the deteriorating mid-century architecture, which used to house various commercial uses over six decades, to a workplace that stands out in a competitive marketplace.    To create a point of difference, we leverage the increasing domestication of the workplace and the rare mid-century aesthetic of the building. The former inspires an adaptive-reuse design approach that transforms the building into a homely workplace; the latter inspires a heritage design approach that returns the building to the glory of its mid-century heyday. Despite the shoestring b... More

Balcones Residence

During the 1950s, architect Roland Roessner was teaching at the University of Texas and designing some of Austin’s most daring modern structures. One of his more memorable houses, the Balcones Residence, is perched above a long, sloping hillside and notable for its prominently cantilevered concrete balcony. Located along Balcones Drive, the property backs up to Camp Mabry, an 85-acre historic military installation established in 1892. New owners purchased the home from the original owners, and though previously unacquainted with the period, delved into all things mid-century modern. They hired Clayton Korte to assist with a deliberate and sensitive renovation of this Austin treasure.   Roessner designed this modest home with cl... More
