The house is located on a plot with a width limited to 3.6m, implying a widespread circulation problem. Miguel Paternostre On the ground floor, four adjoining rooms turned the living space into a passageway where, moreover, no light entered. In addition, sunlight is scarce throughout the plot, due to a high hangar wall running along its south side. Miguel Paternostre The two challenges therefore consisted of reorganizing the spaces around functional circulation and bringing in natural light. Furthermore, we wanted to provide a real connection with nature, despite the urban environment. Miguel Paternostre The proposal consisted, on the one hand, in removing the rear annexes to restore the layout of a two-room house in direc... More

Railcar House

A semi-detached home in Toronto's picturesque Little Italy neighbourhood once felt too small for its owners. Prior to the renovation, the homeowners’ ability to host dinner parties was limited due to size of the living, dining, and kitchen spaces; their extensive art collection was crowded and hidden by poor lighting, and narrow hallways and rooms inhibited even the size of furniture they could bring into the home. With a mere 13'-6” width, this downtown dwelling required two strategic additions and a gut renovation to make its narrow proportions feel spacious.  Riley Snelling Photography Riley Snelling Photography Riley Snelling Photography Organized like a passenger train—a versatile series of connec... The fierce crashing of waves against the sand, tearing it apart, makes the house vibrate and splattered with tar. The house gives the illusion of a ship navigating high winds and seas. Carolina Delgado Carolina Delgado Carolina Delgado In 1913, the lower part of the property was transformed into a warehouse for Adegas Camillo Alves, one of the largest wine traders and producers at the time, which led to the construction of underground reservoirs and factory buildings in the backyard.
