The urban extension of the village of Loenen aan de Vecht is inspired by the old village. The site of the Loenen residence was labeled as a “special” by the urban designers of West 8 which called for an architectural design with high qualities.
By situating the house far back on the lot a large formal garden could be designed in front of it. An urban typology which can also be found in the old village.
The house itself is an abstract translation of the architectural features of the village of Loenen. The symmetrical front façade with the entrance door echoes the lay-out of the front garden with its pond. The curved silhouette of the house is cladded with ceramic roof tiles penetrated by zinc roof dormers. The floor plan has a central staircase with see-troughs and vistas to the outside accentuating the spaciousness of the house.
