The Digital Faraday Cage Project is conceived as a part of an architectural exhibition /Dwelling Elements/ and a social commentary on paralyzing addiction to digital connectivity in the domestic environment. The project responds to the need to unplug and wean off excessive media consumption via common domestic elements such as lounge chairs and dining tables.
The DFC Dining Table is IKEA-style, flat-pack domestic furniture. The drawers underneath the tabletop are made of perforated steel, lined with aluminum sheets and grounded conductive metal mesh, forming Faraday cages that absorb electromagnetic transmissions and severely block mobile phone and Wi-Fi signals. Diners surrender their digital devices at mealtimes, returning meaningful conversations and genuine human connections to the table.
