With its three plinth floors and five upper storeys the courthouse is the focus of the site.
The three floors in the plinth serve as a “distributor” with a three-storey hall and an impressive entrance area. Together with the site boundary they establish a building line that defines the adjoining street space on Feldkirchner Strasse. The cross-section of the area between the courthouse and the elongated office and commercial building allows an arcade-type situation to develop that connects the forecourt to the north with the planted area to the south of the building.
Whereas the square to the north of the court building is intended as a car-park for the supermarket and serves as a buffer zone to Feldkirchner Strasse for the office areas (car parking area to be designed with a sufficient amount of greenery), the larger square to the south with the deep rooted trees assumes the function of a forecourt for the courthouse and continues the green space of the inner city.
The heights of the building are not determined solely by the functional and economic requirements of the various legal departments, they also help to define the new courthouse as central point of identification in future development.
