On a long and narrow plot in a quiet residential of Madrid, Galgo House by Murado & Elvira Architects accommodates its floor plan inside a volume on 4 meters in width. The result design is compact and inventive in its spatial planning with small outdoor indoor spaced insert to provide a rich spatial experience while preserving privacy within a dense urban neighbourhood.

The sequence of spaces includes a courtyard on basement level, swimming pool and garden on the floor level and a double-height terrace on the first floor that expands the feeling of space by extending from indoors to out.

The basement receives natural light thanks to a dug patio that extends the entire frontage of the plot. Over this gap, a bridge connects the street to the entry of the house.

From the entry, the ground floor opens into a garden and pool, which are located longitudinally along the edge of the site. Here, the living and kitchen areas feature large window. Windows and sliding doors include light metal perforated shutters that filter the light. Circular cut-outs in the sliding doors are key identifiers of the house visually.

Above the ground level, the main bedroom expands the entirely of the floor plate to include a bedroom, large bathroom, and a walk-in closet. The bathroom connects to the terrace at the front of the volume. Enclosed by double height wall with strategically placed openings to afford views while preserving privacy.

Finally, a floating spiral staircase connects the second floor to a solarium on the room where views of the entire neighbourhood can be enjoyed.
