Or Whatever, designed by Design by 83, a Busan-based studio, is a small brunch and coffee place located on Jeonpo Café Street. Inspired by the brand name, the design layout is a humble reinterpretation of the existing cafe space.

Imagined in light and distinctive personality, the café explores a cylindrical mass in austere simplicity. The interiors embrace an eloquent and raw aesthetic that represents the honest and free-spirited nature of the brand.

The plastered vintage wall serves as a backdrop for the circular mass while the remaining brick masonry from the existing store is fabricated and the beige raw concrete walls are left exposed to create familiarity amongst the old customers.

The brick pillars supporting the cylindrical insert are encased in birch plywood that reflects the natural look of the old walls, creating a sense of visual cohesion. The form, colour and material of the furniture pieces also echo with tawny interiors.

To create contrast with the subtle interiors, the structure’s original façade of ribbed terracotta tiles was retained. The cylindrical mass is illuminated through aluminium production lighting, creating a striking appearance from the outside.

Therefore, the space composition and material palette create a one-of-a-kind experience, enabling users to connect with the space naturally.
