The collection reflects Patricia Urquiola's creative vision - that is both empathetic and speaks to the senses - and is inspired by the bastion, an architectural element used in fortifications in medieval times: a solid defensive structure that acted as both protection and a look-out over the surrounding countryside. Baluar is a modern-day bastion offering protection and shelter, a cosy space that projects outwards while creating an inner sanctuary where bathers can unwind, relax and recharge.

Its essential, almost archetypal shapes have distinctive medieval overtones that have been given a contemporary look. The heat-treated lime wood cladding – available in either a dark or light tone – features narrow vertical grooves that give the surface movement and emphasize its architectural presence. The controlled lighting comes from the top and sets the mood and amplifies the feeling of protection, for an immersive, cocooning experience.
The system combines a sauna and hammam in a single modular structure with flexibility to create a number of different compositions: Baluar can be combined with other elements, adapted to different-sized spaces, it can stand on its own, be installed in larger rooms or even become part of a spa.
The bespoke attention to detail and technological innovation that have defined EFFE's offering over the years are taken to a new contemporary level in the Baluar collection: the compact and immediately recognisable design is at home in any space, while preserving its own authentic identity.
