The desire to connect with nature, a defining trait of the work of designer Marco Williams Fagioli, is reflected in the clean lines and the use of innovative materials that convey the profound sense of nature. The name PETRA is a reference to the relationship man has with natural materials, suggesting a perfect balance of technology, workmanship and matter.
“Before starting on the design of Petra, I spent a lot of time looking into the history of saunas and hammams, two age-old traditions that are deeply embedded in different, distant cultures. I found the symbols associated with these ancient wellbeing practices absolutely fascinating; for instance, the tradition of lowering the height of the door, so bathers had to bow as a sign of respect when they entered. I wanted to incorporate all these aspects into my project, so the experience would be even more stimulating and authentic”.

[THE DESIGN] With a well-proportioned and contemporary aesthetic, PETRA SH has been designed to blend seamlessly into any public or private space – mini home spas, wellness centres, hotel and resort spas – with a flexibility that meets all project needs and a compact, modular structure that facilitates installation.
This flexibility is not purely structural, as it also gives customers the option of choosing between clear or opaque glass for the front wall, thus determining the degree of privacy they want.
“The design of Petra is not limited to the shape but is an integral part of the experience. The vertical and horizontal arrangement of the front not only defines the design but ensures balance between the elements in the composition. Every detail of this micro architecture is studied for maximum benefit. With the solids and voids on the surfaces, customers can choose the degree of privacy they want, altering the perception of the space.”

[THE MATERIALS] Another innovative feature of Petra SH is the use of new materials, selected for the quality, beauty and sustainability of the raw materials and their production processes.
_ The sauna is made of superior Swiss pine, a hardy Alpine wood that withstands the cold, has well-known relaxing properties and can lower the heart rate. For centuries the material of choice for panelling in mountain homes, Swiss pine encourages deep breathing and creates a healthy sauna atmosphere, thanks to its natural antibacterial properties. The distinct balsamic fragrance of the wood, its warm colour and the texture of its delicate veining, help turn a sauna into an enriching, regenerating multi-sensory experience.
_ The Hammam cabin is clad in an innovative recyclable material obtained from pure minerals using sustainable production processes. As well as being exceptionally hard-wearing and durable, this covering meets high hygiene and safety standards. Its capacity to protect against moisture prevents the proliferation of bacteria, keeping the atmosphere healthy and safe. The natural irregularity of the surface, which is enhanced with digital textures, gives the material a natural look and an organic feel, for an even more stimulating sensory experience.
The PETRA SH Hammam is powered by an Effe Nuvola Smart steam generator installed under the bench. This high-power, professional-standard generator is suitable for large spaces and can also be fitted outside the Hammam. The steam bath now becomes a safe and relaxing experience with state-of-the-art technology, a sophisticated design and advanced functions: automatic steam and temperature control, automatic regulation of the system’s water pressure, optimised management of boiler filling and rinsing, smart control of the on and off periods of the heating elements, an open-door sensor and a touch-screen control panel with backlit icons.
