Eclisse, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965, won the Compasso d’Oro Award in 1967 and became a symbol of Italian design worldwide. This avant-garde lamp masterfully balances form and function, allowing light intensity adjustment through its rotating inner shade, which "eclipses" the source. With a fixed outer shell and a movable inner one, it offers both direct and diffuse lighting.
A versatile table lamp, it can also be wall-mounted. Its painted metal body is available in white, red, orange, and yellow, while the innovative PVD version—crafted using a sustainable sputtering process—comes in black, brass, copper, or mirror.
From an environmental perspective, sputtering is the cleanest metal coating technology, eliminating emissions of sulphuric acid and cyanides common in traditional galvanic processes. Additionally, a low-solvent solid paint (just 5% compared to the usual 75%) is used for the protective clear coat, ensuring minimal waste and exceptional durability.
A design icon, Eclisse is featured in major museum collections, including MoMA in New York and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
